Notes on the Australian longicorn beetle Paroplites australis (ERICHSON, 1842)(Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) with a new record from the Sydney district, New South Wales, Australia

Paper No: 256

Abstract: A recent record of a live adult of Paroplites australis (ERICHSON, 1842) (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae, Prioninae) being collected from the dead base of a Banksia serrata (Proteaceae) in bushland in northern Sydney, New South Wales, is recorded. The larval host plants (native and introduced) are listed and these are mostly trees from the families Proteaceae, Casuarinaceae, Myrtaceae (native) and Fagaceae, Salicaceae, Ulmaceae (introduced). The larvae of P. australis appear to display pre-adaptations for feeding on a wide variety of nonrelated host plants, including introduced hosts which have only been utilised as hosts during recent times.
