City centre of Ekaterinburg

City centre of Ekaterinburg

Centre of Ekaterinburg (Sverdlovsk), western Siberia, Russia, summer 2003. The white building in the centre was built over 200 years ago by local rich merchants. Not sure what it is used for these days. The Iset River flows just to the left of the photograph. Sverdlovsk was the Bolshelvik name given to the city after the Russian Revolution of 1917. It was named after Jacob Sverdlov, one of the local head Bolsheviks. A storm is brewing while a local balloon and children's gift vendor is on the main street.
